Through its ambitious efforts the Egyptian Navy is leading the way, representing a driving force, that in recent years has invested heavily in its maritime capabilities. Cutting edge surface vessels, aircraft and submarines are now operational, with a number of large-scale modernisation projects planned for the near future.
This is because Egypt’s role to play in promoting and enforcing regional maritime security is critical, recently having taken over command of the 34-nation partnership known as Combined Task Force 153. The role of the task force is to ensure security in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb and Gulf of Aden, this combined with its geographical position makes Egypt the ideal location for key-stakeholders to meet and discuss shared challenges and opportunities, in what is a dynamic and strategically important area of maritime operations.
